A quick follow up article to this one (where I looked at the results of the Vic Open Veterans).

Red numbers are the Veterans results from the Vic Open last week.

Total players: 95     (145)
Total matches: 292     (418)
Total upsets: 47 (16%) therefore a total of 245 games went according to ratings probability.    (47 & 11%)
Number of individual players who won in an upset match: 32 (33%)   (37 & 25%)

Upset Mean Rating Difference: 140 points   (110)
Upset Median Rating Difference: 130 points   (83)
Upset Rating Difference Minimum: 2 points    (4)
Upset Rating Difference Maximum: 435 points    (320)   – Ellen Walker (CDTTA)

What does this all mean …. I will leave it to you to make your conclusions for fear of long conversations at the club about the ratings system.

The following chart shows the number of upsets in the Vic Open Veterans and the ratings difference ranges. Interestingly, it shows a distinct drop off after 200 points difference for the probability of an upset. Interesting yes, but in the end, just statistics.
