Club open for general play Friday 6.30pm !

It is with great pleasure I advise the committee has put in place the required new processes to enable the club to open for play once again. Friday Keenagers and Friday competition will not occur this week as we need a little time to implement the new procedures.
The changes in processes include:

  • compulsory member wipe down of tables before and after use using supplied cleaner and disposable paper towels
  • do not deliberately touch tables during play
  • extra cleaning of high use areas by Kiosk staff and member volunteers (involving temporary closure of Kiosk for 5-10 mins)
  • including
    • Kiosk counter
    • Spectator table
    • Spectator seats
    • Door nobs
    • Bathroom vanities and toilets
  • additional cleaning of change rooms.

We also remind individuals it is a personal responsibility to ensure you wear masks when not playing, to check-in and use hand sanitiser on entry and at regular intervals and look after your own health and safety as much as possible so that we can look after our fellow members. If we all take personal responsibility to comply with the rules and take precautions we can keep the club open.

Members are welcome to use spray bottles and paper towel to clean any area prior to use if they have concerns.

Spin to win and spray and clean to stay open.

See many of you Friday night 6.30pm for a game.

Closed

Due to the breakout of COVID-19 in Victoria and imminent lockdown, the club will not open tonight and will remain closed until at least Wednesday 21 July.

Keep an eye on the website and Facebook club pages for updates.

Section 2 finals

Summer season section 2 finals were played last night with the winners being Dib and Yousef Hassan.
Dib and Yousef played like two fast and young people who have been practicing for weeks in the lead up to nationals. Both were far too good for their opposition on the night John Griffiths and Cheryl Huang.

Leading player for section 2 was Yosef Hassan. Good luck at the nationals boys (if they run them).

Beyond Blue can support Coburg Members

Beyond Blue supports Victorians through COVID-19 restrictions

Beyond Blue is reminding Victorians that the Coronavirus Mental Wellbeing Support Service is available to support their mental health and wellbeing during the latest period of COVID-19 restrictions.

Beyond Blue CEO Georgie Harman said skilled mental health professionals were available 24/7 at coronavirus.beyondblue.org.au and 1800 512 348, to provide mental health advice and information tailored to pandemic.

“News of more cases and tighter restrictions will be difficult for many people in Victoria, given the events of 2020,” Ms Harman said. “Let’s remember that we’ve overcome these challenges before, and we can do it again. Beyond Blue is here to support you through it,” she said.

“You don’t have to be in crisis to call us, Beyond Blue’s services are for everybody and it’s never too early or
late to reach out.”

Grant application success x 2

The club has recently been successful in applying for two VicGov grants. The most recent success was a grant for $1,000 for new equipment which will go towards a new ITTF approved and wheel chair compatible table.

What are the differences of a wheel chair compatible table I hear you ask?

The only difference is to the position of the legs, which are set back so that chairs do not whack into them.

Are there any other differences like composition, height, speed, net position I hear you ask?

No. They are exactly the same in all respects except leg position. New tables can appear and play a bit slower than older tables as the coating on old tables has worn down, got very shiny from sweat and touch and the ball skips along the table more, therefore play a bit faster than newer tables.

New no touch member checkin system

The club has also been successful in a second grant from VicGov for $1,075 for a new no touch scanning member checkin system. This will help with no touch member checkin management for those members who don’t have or don’t use their phone to checkin to the VicGov COVID checkin QR system. It will also help the club with member identification as well as analysis of playing patterns and centre use. The scanning member checkin system should be up and running ready for the new financial year.
