Geelong could not get enough juniors for the 30th November As a result the Challenge has been put back one week to the 7th December.

FORMAT 15 Juniors below 500 rc points from each club on a Saturday night. Geelong will arrive around 5pm for a warm up Pizzas for dinner then the matches will take place and run until 9pm

First 15 players to confirm will be eligible to play in this special event -Cost is only $8 and covers the pizzas & fees to play

One of our resident coaches Brian Berry recently won the Australian Over 65’s Gold Medal defeating the great Paul Pinkewich in the final. He also won a series of other medals at the Australian Veterans Championships

But his good run does not stop there as last weekend he won his 16th St Kilda ttc Singles titles. Maybe Jim with 17 Coburg titles is the only player with a better record in an annual event ?

Brian is in a team with Earn Chew & Craig in the Community Cup . Why not enter a team of 3 players for only $100 a team, and try your skill against some players of this calibre without being eliminated after one match ?

Alex the Pizza . .informed us that he passed his Citizenship test. Allocated 45 minutes to complete it, Alex was done and dusted in 1 minute 20 seconds., I guess that gives us the right to know him now as Aussie Alex ! And we expect egg on every pizza he makes.
Now I think of Jim and last Saturday in the Doubles format. Young Anthony was about to partner Jim, just after JIm said ‘he plays unusual shots but does his best to get every ball on the table. Famous last words -the Doubles started and he first 4 shots were wild swings. At least one of them went on the table, the others gave Jim a draft as the wind from the bat that was pretty close to Jim.

Jim did have an impact on Stretch today who attended Monday coaching. Here was Mark, working hard on his close to the table looping when working with the 4 coaches today. But when hitting with other players, it all went out the window as he thought he was Jim and spent the rest of the morning away from the table trying to chop ! I did ask Stretch ‘what style of game do you want to play ?’ He replied with I Dunnno ! -Sort of says it all. And it was Jim who told him to shut his mouth and say nothing about his ‘statement on Saturday ‘ A pity Stretch did not listen as he pointed out that on Saturday Stuart asked him what is the correct name for the Scorers tables on each court. A Rectum ” he said.. Today he admitted he meant to say Rostrum.
When Stretch was leaving today he said ‘Good value for money todays coaching group . But just as he got to the door he turned back – He had forgotten to pay !

Back at the club Monday night, and a busy night was interrupted by Thunder which sounded on top of the clubs roof, followed by the big lightning strike. All power was now gone and we were left with a few dimly lit security lights . Some still tried to play on, while others slowly packed their bags and walked up to the spectator area. Sieng came to the club, entered and said ‘don’t we have any power ? No mate were are sitting in the dark meditating ! he jumped on a court and had a bit of a hit but soon it was time for everyone to leave as it was obvious now that it would be a long time before we got the power back . I stopped at the Super Market on the way home and bumped into John Z. Yes ! he had to kill some time before going home Could not afford to go home early.

So as the end of the year attacks us pretty quickly, we must discuss Pennant in the future
2020 SUMMER COMP Starts first week of february. All 88 players from this season have been invited to play again next season. But there is a waiting list of nearly 30 players wishing to play.
A_ As hard as we will try LEADING Players of this season are not guaranteed of a promotion. -Once I have placed the current players in their respective sections i will then be inviting some of the players who are not in the current pennant to join us.
B_ If I am going to drop you down one section that is then your call if you still wish to play next year.
C- Christmas Comp -Sections 2 & 3 are strong this year. Results will be looked at but that does not guarantee you a higher grade for Summer.

On Melbourne Cup day next Tuesday, the club will open in the morning for the Social over 50’s players (Keenagers) then stay open until 6pm for members and the general public HOWEVER if there is hardly anyone in the club in the afternoon, the doors will be shut.

Yes ! Stretch very reserved and came in late, left early without finding a way of putting his shoe in his mouth !
But shoe problems did cause YOUSEF some grief. He left his shoes at home and arrived in flip flops. Even Kays shoes were too big and he did not enjoy foam being shoved into the shoes to fill the gap. So, he hit with people on court 8 blocking but not moving around wearing his backless sandals.

Still, it showed the beauty of the sport when 11 year old Yousef was handing out advice and hitting with 75 year old Garo.

Coaching ? brings up Brian Berrys name. Kamran came to the club to do some work on our computer but also to have a hit with Brian. BB had just completed his lesson with Gaye & needed to head out for a short break, so Gaye was left to hit with Kamran in Brians absence. Which was fair enough as she felt unwanted, while Brian extended his coaching time with Matthew leaving Gaye all alone in the spectator area so at least she can say she spent extra time today on Brians court.
While waiting for her turn with the BB she asked ‘do you remember who I hit with 3 weeks ago ?’ That alone was a tough task, that became even more complicated once she said ‘it’s a normal name, Joe or George’. I wouldn’t say NAMMIT is a name I come across frequently .

Names is something Hannie excels in. Although remembering Balaj & the correct pronunciation of Jaimin did put her to the test.

WHO IS OUR LEADING PLAYER who is concerned that he could still lose the Leading Player award, yet he is 4 wins clear and only 1 match (2 singles ) to play.
And how about the player who forgets matches starting times so he wants the club to SMS every player as a reminder every week about pennant.
