Re-opening update … not yet

Changes to Restrictions – TTV advice

The Victorian Government yesterday announced some easing of restrictions. From a community sports’ perspective, the main change is:

  • the ability to leave the house for exercise will be expanded to include outdoor recreational activities. These activities can occur in groups of up to 10 people outside, but the requirements on physical distancing remain.

Unfortunately, this does not change the situation for table tennis as an indoor sport in Victoria.

We therefore remain in a ‘No Play’ situation.

Current restrictions will stay in place until at least the end of May…unless advised otherwise.

John Mac and his training ?

Nice to hear from John McMullan.
He uses an old bat (as his is still being repaired from the damage caused when the racket strikes the table). he serves onto the bed but John being john, means he leaves them on the bed as he turns off the light which does not please the wife .

CHRISSY AND THE CREW

We thank Chrissy J for the following

When all of this chaos started I ordered a table from Rob which was great but only had a day to play on it with Pol and Zoe before things got really weird. As Rod (Chrissys hubby ) could no longer row I thought it would be a good idea to play together, that lasted less than a little while as we didn’t want to end in the divorce court. I then went all out and spent my dad’s inheritance on a robot but didn’t realise how BORING this could be, on top of that the balls would burst in mid air, I started off with a box and now have less than half.

ANZAC DAY EVENT –

The Annual Anzac day event is very important to Coburg table tennis club and the Community.
It is regretful that we cant hold the event this year, but I do hope that our players and members take time out to reflect on those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice during the conflicts over the years.
It is very pleasing to note that Franca on behalf of RYMAN Health has passed on kind thoughts to the club and saying it is sad that we could not put an event together this year. However they will join us next year to make 2021 a special Anzac event

Plus the following was sent to the club from Trevor + Ray sons of the late Bill & Joyce Sibbison.

As Anzac Day approaches and we think of those who made sacrifices for our country. I would like to wish yourself, your family and the wider Coburg Table Tennis community well and good health in our own time of adversity due to the medical, social and economic effects of CoVid19.
Hopefully we shall be able to return to many of our normal ways, which we no longer take for granted, in the near future.
Kind regards on behalf of Ray and myself
Trevor Sibbison,

All I can add is Happy Anzac day to everyone and hope to see you all back at the club in the near future.

DAVE – KEEPING IN TOUCH

David Brand is playing regular table tennis. On the city side of Melbourne Uni on the outdoor tables and indoor in the hall way -a small table that has Vietnamese Coffee boxes side by side acting a a net.

Coffee aka Flash aka Gordon and the Pizza have been seen on outdoor tables in Docklands.

WHO SAYS YOU CANT PLAY TABLE TENNIS ?

Thanks for those who have replied. –

Lawrence Lim is stuck in an apartment in Malaysia -no Table Tennis and he says Hi to everyone.
Lim is stuck in a bungalow in Malaysia – plenty of fishing but no table tennis and Martin Solomons is also on the fishing bug but no ping pong for him
Duncan 15 is still recovering from the shock of being dad to baby 7 1/2. No table tennis for Dunc either.
HOWEVER –
Dillon Chambers, Australian team rep, is one of thousands to lose his job. HOwever he has a table tennis table in the lounge room and with enough room both ends and a room mate who is als a good player, Dillon is training longer every day than ever before.

Peter Jacobs – He has training with Elizabeth on Fridays and Sarah on Saturdays -NOt having his daughters forget all they have learnt from the Train.

Shagga aka Glenn Stuart has a table in the garage with Fitzy + Christopher Strubbe dropping by for hits.

Bill Verhagon discovered every Table Tennis table in Australia have been bought, so he has made up a table using some of his portable Music stage, but don’t over hit the ball it will go flying .

+ Cathy Heathcote Keenager of the Year a couple of years ago has resorted to playing on an old kitchen table -She has a dozen balls that are 30 years old so playing with the old 38 ml balls.

And my mate from yesteryear, Bruno Sawall from Germany. He has a Robot and he keeps trying to defeat it. No scores are taken as it would be a reminder of his days at Coburg in our first Supermatch.. Bruno on Zero was screamed out many times until he finally won a point, so the Umpy called out David B on 14 Trent on 12 – John G on 11 Jim on 10 Craig on 6 Ziggy on 6 -etc etc Bruno not many !

HELLO TABLE TENNIS ENTHUSIASTS

We are all missing playing the sport we love. But I am sure some people are playing Table Tennis or making do playing on other things such as the kitchen table.

SO why not let everybody know what is going on out there. Contact me @ ttennisbooms@optusnet.com.au + let me know
where are you still playing ( could be in Maurice’s garage ? )
Maybe on the Kitchen table ?
Alex + Gordon had a hit on an outdoor table in the Docklands

Tell us what you are missing most about not being at Coburg ?
What is it like not doing the weekly ritual of turning up for pennant.
Maybe you have found something different ? so Table Tennis is not on your radar anymore ?

Be serious ? have some fun ? lets just keep everyone who reads this site in the loop and I will write up your stories.

NEIL CARLESS -former Keenager of the Year and Sec 3 player at Coburg is getting his Table Tennis fix by watching some of the great matches on You Tube.

VIC FRENCH – 2020 Coburg TTC Hall of Fame -Service Award

A special presentation will be done once the club is in operation again.

Coburg Table Tennis Centre is now CLOSED due to COVID-19 PANDEMIC

To All Members/Players

Given the rapidly evolving situation with the COVID-19, the fact that many of our players/members are elderly, and that we can’t avoid the shared handling of table tennis balls and other equipment, the committee has decided to close the Coburg Table Tennis club from Monday 16th of Mar 2020 until at least 14th April 2020.

Our club closure is in line with many other table tennis clubs around Melbourne, to ensure the wellbeing of our members and the community in general.

As this health crisis keeps evolving daily, our club opening date may have to be modified again in the future. Please visit this website regularly or our Club Facebook homepage or contact us via the email address manager@coburgtabletennis.club

Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.
